The fourth Electricity Market Report 2020 was presented, the analysis on the evolution of electricity markets in Italy and on the new configurations for energy sharing conducted by the Energy&Strategy Group of the School of Management of the Politecnico di Milano, which highlighted the “shock” due to the Covid19 pandemic also hit the electricity system.
But beyond the pandemic impact, important visions on the future of digital energy also emerged from the event. According to the study, in fact, the Energy Communities in the next 5 years could generate a turnover of about 4 billion euros, supported by incentives for 6.5 billion euros over a 20-year horizon. A segment of the energy value chain in which algoWatt is well present, with an almost pioneering role and with an original business model, which places it among the leading companies in the development of this new sector with explosive growth.

Although with significant differences between the various scenarios, the market potential in our country is considerable. In fact, it is estimated that around 150-300 thousand non-residential users and over 1 million residential users could be involved in the next five years (2021-2025), giving rise (in the intermediate scenario) to about 5-10 thousand configurations of collective self-consumption and about 20,000 Renewable Energy Communities. The repercussions would be economic (for example with reference to the turnover generated for the supply of the necessary technological components), but also fiscal, energy and environmental, such as the increase in photovoltaic generation and the consequent reduction of emissions. The spread of energy communities could lead, in total, to the installation of over 3.5 GW of photovoltaic systems and 1.3 GWh of storage capacity.

At the presentation event of the report, algoWatt participated with Michele Palanza , Energy Utility Sales Manager, who took part in the round table on the role of technology providers, as enablers of new configurations and business models of digital energy.

“From our point of view – he explained – in thinking of a solution we must focus on the needs and evolutions of the reference market and on the inevitable evolutions of the business models of the subjects that operate in it. We think of operators who are called to put together different types of services according to the Smart-aggregation model mentioned in the report, where, for example, the Energy Community operator is not limited to a mere distribution of revenues but also an active management of the service or even more complementary services, such as UVAM, but also energy efficiency, etc. “.

Therefore a plurality of services offered by a certain number of aggregates that refer to the same BSP, which on the one hand organizes and optimizes the service at the aggregate level and on the other enhances it on different markets.

“We believe that only in this way can operators grow in terms of critical mass and size and therefore be able to move an adequate amount of energy and power in order to work on multiple revenue streams, even with low margins, and create a significant business. and interoperable “.
