CONTROL ROOM FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND MAINTENANCE

In the context of sustainable development, reducing the so-called carbon footprint (namely the reduction of CO2 emissions) has gained importance. The European Union has sought to make a contribution in this direction with the Climate and Energy package, referred to as “20/20/20”, which aims to reduce by 2020 by 20% in greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption by 20% and reach to cover 20% of needs through alternative sources.ance.

THE PROJECT

Although it is not always correctly perceived, buildings contribute significantly to the production of CO2 over their life cycle (procurement, construction, maintenance, operation, etc.).
The project allowed to reach a pragmatic approach on energy saving, allowing, according to the measurement of real consumption, to define actions that could be done on the plants, measuring the savings achieved and the reduction of pollutant emissions (CO2). The designed system is an essential tool for the energy and facility manager, to define the properties to examine priorities and outline action plans. The system apply the envisaged policies of energy consumption (e.g. switching off lights and appliances at night, etc.) makeing direct remote actions on the equipment. The value of this highly innovative project is, on the one hand, the ability to view the states of criticality in reference to the fuel consumption and the malfunction of the systems, on the other hand, the ability to globally consider the issue of maintenance of an apparatus aimed at saving energy and increasing operational efficiency, involving maintenance.

The solutions already available cover almost exclusively the execution of management activities, neglecting any innovative “smart reaction” to the occurrence of any drift of the established energy performane indicators. In addition, the few solutions that integrate reaction systems are “vertical” (i.e. only energy monitoring and remote control commands to actuators) and do not have the characteristic of “horizontal integrated approach”, which is the basis of the project, which sees the system building-maintenance-system as a whole in all its components, to optimize the whole life cycle.
