MYPASS – Passenger Mobility as a Service

The MyPasS project aims to develop actions that promote the spread of the MaaS model in Italy through two main groups of activities and corresponding results:

  • define a set of measures, organizational scenarios, operating and business models that create the conditions for the development of MaaS;
  • design and implement a series of innovative software components that allow to significantly increase the technologies supporting MaaS, improving the interoperability and integration of transport systems in the ITS landscape.

THE PROJECT

MaaS is a mobility model in which users’ needs are met by a single integrated service provider combining transport infrastructure, travel information and payment services.

Many of the initiatives undertaken have had difficulty in achieving a sufficient level of maturity and success among travelers. From this consideration, the project has the following objectives:

  • Develop, test and disseminate integration technologies between the various systems (planning, pricing, booking, payment) that enable new forms of mobility as a service.
  • Develop, through Artificial Intelligence and predictive analysis techniques, models for processing user behavior, in order to intercept the demand for mobility and to provide planning functions with high added value for Public Administrations.
  • Develop and validate innovative business models for MaaS systems.
  • Identify and promote the regulatory and legal framework for the development and implementation of MaaS schemes at the national level.
  • Develop and implement strategies to facilitate citizens’ behavioural change towards the concept of sustainable mobility.

The project aims to test technological and operational solutions in two pilot sites, Cagliari and Naples, with the ambition to contribute to the improvement of urban mobility and create significant economic benefits in the field of ITS and transport.

RESEARCH AREAS

The main research areas of the project are as follows:

  • Innovative business models: MyPasS will design a MaaS value proposition that meets current and emerging market conditions. MyPasS will evaluate the impact in the pilot sites and develop a roadmap of concrete actions to improve the evaluated business models and ensure scalability and transferability involving representatives of other Italian cities.
  • Regulatory frameworks: requirements for regulatory and regulatory frameworks will be developed to facilitate the initiation and long-term sustainability of MaaS systems with a focus on the regulatory framework and the MaaS Technology Framework.
  • Behavioural change strategies: development of behaviour change strategies evaluated at pilot sites, designed starting from the conditions and objectives of current pricing schemes and based on incentive models. Recommendations on behavioural change strategies for further implementation will also be developed.
  • User acquisition strategies: user recruitment based on the evaluation of operational patterns resulting from experimentation and validation in pilot sites. Cultural barriers in the participating cities will be taken into account when designing strategies and main business methodologies.
  • Strategies and long-term support for roaming. To pave the way for the integration of MaaS at national level: MyPasS will produce guidelines with short, medium and long-term prospects for a MaaS roaming at the Italian level.
