EFFICACITY: Intelligent and efficient optimization of the process of reuse and collection of bulky waste in urban areas
The EFFICACITY project proposes the study, development and validation of a service platform for the optimization of the collection of bulky waste in the metropolitan area of Genoa. Advanced ICT technologies are applied to support process innovations and models enabling recycling and reuse of bulky objects towards circular economy and environmental sustainability, favoring virtuous and sustainable dynamics.
THE PROJECT
The EFFICACITY project (Intelligent and efficient optimization of the process of reuse and collection of bulky waste in urban areas) was funded under the POR FESR 2014-2020 Call – Axis 1 – Action 1.2.4 – Research and Innovation as leader AMIU (Multiservice and Urban Hygiene Company), one of the main Italian operators in the environmental sector, in which it has been operating for over thirty years. The project activities, focused on the metropolitan area of Genoa for a duration of 18 months, are aimed at identifying, refining, integrating and applying complementary innovative technologies to enable new processes that are also innovative to achieve the recycling and reuse objectives of bulky solid waste, fostering circular economy practices in the urban area. A key concept is the involvement and empowerment of citizens in an integrated process, redesigned and implemented thanks to the synergy of the skills of the partners, to make the management of the collection, transfer and reuse of waste more efficient and sustainable on the territory, inserting innovative technological and process related elements along the value chain. This theme has strategic importance for urban spaces and their liveability, with relevant impacts on the territory, allowing the introduction of waste management elements that reduce the use of disposal and direct used goods towards a virtuous reuse and recycling possibility. As part of the EFFICACITY project, algoWatt will be responsible for the design and development of the management and planning system for the collection of bulky waste, leveraging on a collaboration with the University of Genoa (Department of Computer Science, Bioengineering, Robotics and Systems – DIBRIS).
