Innovative methods for Diagnostic Imaging in rheumatoid pathologies
Musculoskeletal rheumatic diseases have an increasing impact on society and health care spending, due to the increasing average age of the population. They also have a strong social cost for the days of absence from work and – not least – a heavy negative influence on the quality of life of patients.
To date, conventional radiology has shown inappropriateness in detecting the disease in early stages, when it might be clinically threated by means of specific therapies whose efficacy improve if started at the onset of the disease.
THE PROJECT
Modern imaging techniques, which over time have gone alongside to conventional radiology, are leading a revolution in these studies. Companies in the POLITECMED (Polo Ligure delle Tecnologie Medicali) hold innovative, effective and low cost imaging technologies, in particular for Ultra-Sound (US) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
This project aims at responding to the needs of physicians and healthcare facilities with new specific diagnostic tools to anticipate as early as possible the activation of the therapeutic process in the case of musculoskeletal diseases, but with possible extensions to other diseases, in order to ensure greater effectiveness of that path and a reduction of costs related to the treatment and evolution disabling of the disease.
