Smart mobility & last MILE logistics
The SMILE project aims at optimizing and harmonizing the processes of urban traffic management and urban freight distribution, through the efficient use of existing infrastructures and ystems and the provision of information and “guidelines” to those involved. Its ultimate goal is to reduce traffic congestion in urban centers and increase the quality of services for operators, not only from the point of view of smart city and smart mobility, but also of smart working.
THE PROJECT
SMILE delivers an ICT platform to use the existing systems – specifically in the field of urban mobility and logistics – to collect and normalize the information from these systems making them available to an application layer and create value added services oriented to the business operators, public administrations, citizens in a smart mobility-smart city strategy.
The project provides an important analysis phase to determine the existing information assets, with a focus on the Municipality of Genoa, resulting from field systems operating within the urban mobility and logistics and transport. Moreover, an important activity of dialogue with stakeholders will be carried out to understand what information must be shared and which services, from integrated information assets, may represent an improvement for their activities. In parallel, thanks to the contribution of local academic and research as well as specific knowledge of the companies involved in the project, a thorough evaluation is shared on enabling technologies to better define the modeling of architectural layers of the platform, the data standardization and exchange with existing field systems.
The service aspect is crucial because of the cooperation of the information collected, as the platform aims at creating a virtuous innovative urban management system and its infrastructure, coordinating the needs of the operators of the distribution of goods, traffic situations, events and providing collected information to all those involved to better manage their activities with consequent benefits for the decongestion of urban centers. The range of services will be then defined, arising both from the actual needs of the stakeholders identified in the analysis phase, and the types of data that can be provided by existing systems.
Based on the analysis performed and the definition of the services a demonstrator prototype platform will be implemented that envisages interfacing with some existing systems, standardization of the information provided by these systems and the implementation of some services usable by users in a multi-channel way (user interface, web services for legacy systems, mobile devices).
