OPTIMIZATION OF DISTRIBUTION BY MEANS OF SMART METER DATA AND DISTRIBUTED POWER STORAGE

The PODCAST project aims at providing innovative operational tools for the use of distribution-networks monitoring data at various levels (measures in primary stations and substations, smart metering in LV, state estimation through direct monitoring, and pseudo-measures), in order to provide services to:

THE PROJECT

The project will implement these innovations exploiting the state-of-the-art technologies for data measuring and transmission, focusing on value-added features that can be provided based on the modeling and analysis of the big amount of data available, collected by electronic meters (big-data mining). In particular, strategies for management and control of electric and hydric storage-system and policies of Demand Side Management will be pursued.
The project will extend the scientific and technical results obtained by the SmartGen project. Starting from the SmartGen Distribution Management System (DMS) prototype, three different experimental functional modules will be designed and developed, dedicated to DSO, TSO, and PLA. These modules will be able, on the one hand, to support the DSO operating policies and, on the other hand, to anticipate the TSO and PLA operating policies, in compliance with the feasibility (technical feasibility, costs) and replicability (needs assessment of the industry) of the proposed solutions.

CONSORTIUM

A consolidated research group with a renowned academic and industrial profile
The consortium is made up of:

1) an industrial component (SOFTECO, SDI, TOSHIBA) with proven technical skills in the design, construction and installation of ICT / SCADA systems, industrial automation, monitoring systems and energy efficiency, platforms for the electricity market, equipment for electrochemical storage and meters for Automatic Meter Reading;

2) an academic component (UNIGE, UNIBO) with internationally recognized experience in the field of applied research on electrical systems;

3) a DSO (AMAIE) able to provide immediate technical / implementation support for the realization, validation and exploitation of the project results.
